Reimbursement from third-party payors is a complex issue. Successful accomplishment of third-party reimbursement for services provided by an AT takes a concerted effort from individual athletic trainers (ATs), employers (especially senior leadership support), referral sources, medical coders and others. In this presentation issues are presented that need to be addressed, questions that need to be answered and resources to utilize. This presentation is not meant to be a comprehensive “how-to bill” workshop but is meant to be starting point for those ATs and administrators wanting to understand where to
start. This information and the questions they raise is a beginning to direct the AT to resources and next steps in the reimbursement process.
